Purpose
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to correctly use the six main English question words to ask for specific information.
Lesson Explanation
English uses specific question words, each asking for a different kind of information:
What — asks about a thing: What is your name? Where — asks about a place: Where do you live? Who — asks about a person: Who is that? When — asks about a time: When is your birthday? Why — asks about a reason: Why are you late? How — asks about a method/way: How do you make tea?
These questions usually require do/does (for a normal verb) or a form of “to be” (from Part 1, Lesson 6), placed immediately after the question word: Where do you live?, What is your name?
How can also combine with an adjective to ask about a specific quality: How old are you?, How much is this?
