Purpose

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to name the seven days of the week and twelve months of the year in order, and correctly say a full date using ordinal numbers.

Lesson Explanation

There are 7 days in a week, always in this order:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Every day name is always written with a capital letter at the start, even in the middle of a sentence — this is a fixed rule, not optional styling.

There are 12 months in a year, always in this order:

January, February, March, April, May, June,
July, August, September, October, November, December

Like day names, month names are always capitalized.

To say a date, English uses ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th…) for the day, not plain counting numbers. Most ordinal numbers add -th to the number word (fourth, fifth, sixth), but three specific numbers are genuinely irregular: first (1st), second (2nd), and third (3rd) do not follow the -th pattern at all.

A full date in American English is typically said as: month, ordinal day, year — for example, March fifth, two thousand twenty-six for March 5, 2026.
