This task presents a scenario resembling an online class discussion board: a professor poses a question or topic, and the test-taker must write a contribution to the discussion – genuinely different from a traditional standalone essay, since the response should read as though it is genuinely joining an ongoing academic conversation, not simply answering an isolated prompt in a vacuum. A genuinely effective approach: state a clear position on the professor’s question early in the response, support it with specific reasoning or an example, and maintain an appropriately academic but conversational register throughout, since this task simulates a genuine discussion contribution rather than a formal essay submission. A genuinely important connection to the academic vocabulary work from Part 2, Lesson 5: because this task is explicitly academic in framing, the same logical-relationship vocabulary and precise word choice recommended there for reading comprehension apply equally to producing a response here – the receptive and productive vocabulary skills are, once again, genuinely the same underlying knowledge applied in two directions.
